NSC poll shows Malaysians divided on loosened travelling rules

A poll conducted by the National Security Council (NSC) suggested that Malaysians were almost equally split on the decision to allow unrestricted travel to and from conditional movement control order (MCO) areas.

As of 11am today, the ongoing poll attracted 87,889 replies. The voting stood at 51 percent for and 49 percent against.

The poll was conducted through the NSC's channel in the Telegram messaging app. There are 1,284,993 subscribers to the channel. Telegram requires each user to use their phone number to register an account.

Starting Dec 7, the NSC dropped two key conditional MCO rules - restricted inter-state border travel for conditional MCO areas and the two passenger cap on personal vehicles.

This was amidst the growing number of new Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan - the only remaining conditional MCO territories in Peninsular Malaysia.

As of yesterday, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Selangor was 4,555, which exceeded the number in Sabah (4,348).

Kuala Lumpur had 2,210 active cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan (1,249) and Johor (819).
