The first batch of five state executive councillors (excos) for the new Perak state government has been sworn in.
They include four Umno assemblypersons - who were retained from the previous state administration - and one newcomer from Bersatu.
The retained Umno exco members are the assemblypersons for Lintang (Mohd Zolkafly Harun), Rungkup (Shahrul Zaman Yahya), Kampung Gajah (Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin) and Bota (Khairul Shahril Mohamed).
The Bersatu newcomer is Sungai Manik representative Zainol Fadzi Paharudin while no PAS assemblypersons are on the list yet.
Their first order of business will be to sit in an exco meeting with Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad to approve the state's 2021 budget.
Saarani has said this is just a formality to re-approve the budget which was prepared by his predecessor Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Faizal, who is the Bersatu assemblyperson for Chenderiang, was ousted through a vote of confidence last week, just before he was scheduled to table the state budget for next year.
The presidents of Umno, PAS and Bersatu have made an agreement on the distribution of positions under the new state government.
According to the Perak constitution, the state administration should have at least four excos and a maximum of 10 excos, not including the menteri besar.
This means there are five exco vacancies yet to be filled.
Meanwhile, Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah visited the media at Dewan Jubli Kuala Kangsar after the five excos were sworn in at Istana Iskandariah.
His Highness thanked the media for "camping" in front of Istana Ipoh for the past week in order to bring the latest developments to the public. - Mkini
