Return the favour on MB’s post, PPBM told

 

Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan says PPBM should back an Umno person to be the new menteri besar of Perak.

PETALING JAYA: An Umno official said tonight that the political crisis in Perak offered PPBM the best chance to reciprocate Umno’s backing of Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s appointment as menteri besar in March.

Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan said the party had in the past supported Faizal, a PPBM assemblyman, despite holding more seats than PPBM in the state assembly.

And now it was time for PPBM to return the favour, he said. “This is the best opportunity for PPBM to back an Umno man for the menteri besar post,” he said in an interview on Astro Awani.

However, Shahril said it was best to wait for the official stance of party leaders in the government.

Faizal was reappointed as the menteri besar in March after he had resigned following the break-up of the Pakatan Harapan coalition in the state.

Earlier today, Faizal, who is the PPBM deputy president, lost a confidence motion in the state assembly by 48-10. The motion had been submitted by Pengkalan Baru assemblyman Abdul Manaf Hashim, who is from Umno.

Barisan Nasional has 25 seats in the state assembly, PPBM five and PAS three. Gerakan has one assemblyman and there is also an independent. Pakatan Harapan has 24 state seats with DAP having 16, Amanah five and PKR three. - FMT
