IPOH: Several names will be nominated to Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah following the resignation of Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the Mentri Besar, says Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“I will be nominating several names to Sultan Nazrin as soon as possible. We had a meeting with Perak Umno assemblymen on Saturday (Dec 5) and I will meet with leaders from other parties to discuss this, ” he said.
When asked if he will meet leaders from Pakatan Harapan, Ahmad Zahid said he is looking at all possibilities.
“The final decision (to meet leaders from Pakatan) will be decided by the party," he said.
He added that it is necessary to form a new political coalition with several adjustments to have a a stronger Perak government.
“If a new coalition is needed to gain stronger support for the new state government, we are not ruling out any possibilities,"
“I acknowledge the stand made by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and PAS, but we need to form a new government, ” he told reporters after his audience with Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizuddin Shah at Istana Kinta on Sunday (Dec 6)
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid arrived at the palace around 9.48am and left the compound at 11.10am.
He said the audience with Sultan Nazrin was to discuss Faizal's resignation, which was tendered on Saturday (Dec 5)
“The most important part is that the state budget needs to be tabled. It is my hope that when the new state government is formed, the state administration will continue as usual, ” he said.
Separately, Perak Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad said in a statement that the special meeting held at the Umno building here on Saturday was to discuss the political scenario of the state.
“We will take public interest into account when making any decision made regarding the new formation of the state government, including the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We also thank Faizal for his service as the Mentri Besar as well as the state Executive Council." - Star
