Kelantan Umno wants PAS to make a firm choice on whether it will be with Umno or Bersatu in the 15th general election.
The declaration was sought by 12 out of 13 Kelantan Umno divisions after a meeting last night.
"We want PAS to make a clear and immediate decision on this," Kelantan Umno secretary Akbar Salim (above) said in a statement today.
PAS has so far refused to pick a side between Umno and Bersatu - despite the latter two set for a breakup.
The Islamist party has a political pact with Umno but is also a member of Bersatu's Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, who is the Kota Bharu MP, said his party was confident that all parties can stay united.
The Kelantan Umno divisions also agreed last night to sever ties with Bersatu.
This is in contrast to Ketereh Umno, headed by former BN secretary-general Annuar Musa, which wants the party to remain an ally to Bersatu and PN.
Ketereh Umno had relayed this to party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi through a letter last week.
However, Akbar said this was an isolated stance.
"(The letter) did not go through the state Umno chapter," he added.
Umno's supreme council had already sent a letter to Bersatu informing them that cooperation will end once Parliament is dissolved.
However, the matter is still expected to be debated at the Umno general assembly this weekend, with Annuar's faction expected to mount opposition to the breakup. - Mkini
