Covid-19 (July 10) - Death toll crosses 6,000 mark; new record of 9,353 cases and 87 deaths today

 


COVID-19 | The Covid-19 situation in the country showed no signs of abating as fresh infections hit record highs for the second consecutive day.

The Health Ministry reported 9,353 new Covid-19 cases today, beating out the 9,180 fresh infections yesterday, which was also a record-high.

There were also 87 deaths today pushing the national death to 6,067.

The number of recoveries today failed to dampen the rise in active cases. 

  • Active cases: 84,021
  • Patients in ICUs: 959
  • Intubated: 451

New cases by states

Selangor reported more than 4,000 cases for the third consecutive day while fresh infections also remain elevated in Kuala Lumpur as it reported four-digit cases for the fifth consecutive day.

Notably, Malacca also saw a dramatic spike in new cases with 835 infections. 

Previously, the most daily cases Malacca had seen was 380 on May 28.

Deaths

The new deaths tpday were recorded in Selangor (50), Johor (8), Pahang (6), Kedah (5), Kuala Lumpur (5), Negeri Sembilan (5), Malacca (4), Penang (2), Kelantan (1) and Labuan (1).

The youngest victim was a 26-years-old woman The remaining deaths were aged between 32 and 97.

Vaccination

As of July 9, a total of 31.76 percent out of an estimated adult population of 23,409,600 in the country have received at least the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Around 14.16 percent have received their second dose. There is no Covid-19 vaccination programme for those aged under 18-years-old for now.

For the five most populous states and territories, the proportion of population that have received at least the first dose are as follow: Kuala Lumpur (99.36 percent), Selangor (29.17 percent), Sarawak (27.72 percent), Johor (19.15 percent) and Perak (24.34 percent).

Three states that are seeing the slowest vaccination pace are Sabah (14.42 percent), Johor (19.15 percent) and Kedah (19.18 percent).

The fastest are Kuala Lumpur (99.36), Putrajaya (77.11) and Sarawak (65.41).

The national registration rate for the Covid-19 vaccine stands at 75.91 percent.
