DAP Youth leader: Unite behind Harapan logo, not PKR

The Federal Territories DAP Youth has proposed that the opposition front unites behind the Pakatan Harapan logo in the next general election.

This comes after Federal Territories PKR leaders called for the party’s own logo to be used in GE15.

In a statement today, FT DAP Youth chief Lee Bing Hong underscored that the opposition needed to come together and there was little room for “selfish” moves.

“Using the Harapan logo is an important step to show unity between Harapan component parties.

“Besides that, we need to respect the logo of each Harapan party.

“Using one party’s logo to represent other parties in the same political alliance will be seen as a rather selfish move, this is also disrespectful of the power and ability of other parties to unite the people against oppressive powers.

“We need to come to an agreement, and it is better and more appropriate if the Harapan logo is prioritised,” he said.

Lee acknowledged FT PKR’s point that Harapan had won GE14 using the PKR logo in Peninsular Malaysia but explained that this had been in response to “technical issues”.

At the time, the Registrar of Societies had not approved former Harapan component party Bersatu’s registration. Neither did it allow Harapan to be registered as a formal coalition.

These registrations were later approved after Harapan won the general election.

Component parties have since used the Harapan logo in by-elections in Peninsular Malaysia.

“It is time for Harapan’s logo to be used in the next general election.

“The opposition must show strong unity to gain the rakyat’s trust, especially when politics in the country is unstable [...]

“FT DAP Youth rejects using the PKR logo in the next general election and will prioritise the Harapan logo for unity among parties,” Lee said.

Yesterday, a group of FT PKR leaders contended that the PKR logo was more suitable as it was a “recognisable brand” with a 20-year history.

They also argued that PKR’s “justice for all” slogan was capable of appealing to all demographics.

Among the leaders who made the call were three PKR MPs - P Prabakaran (Batu), Tan Yee Kew (Wangsa Maju) and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa).  - Mkini
