PETALING JAYA: The country’s top cop says the security situation is under control and the police have neither detected nor received information on any security threat.
Inspector General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani in a statement urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation on a warning of a possible terrorist threat issued by Japan’s foreign ministry to Japanese citizens in Malaysia.
The IGP said there would be increased monitoring to ensure the wellbeing of the people. The police would act against anyone who was a threat to public order, he said.
Earlier today, Wisma Putra in response to the Japanese advisory, said security agencies are monitoring the situation.
Wisma Putra added that it had also instructed the Malaysian embassy in Tokyo to stay in close communication with the Japanese foreign ministry.
The Japanese foreign ministry advisory urged Japanese citizens in Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar to stay away from religious facilities and other crowded areas.
The warning cited intelligence reports that there could be possible attacks on houses of worship and places involving large gatherings in the region. - FMT
