PETALING JAYA: Interstate travel and tourism activities will be allowed to resume once 90% of the adult population have been fully vaccinated, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
Announcing further relaxations of Covid restrictions, he said groceries, petrol stations and eateries may open from 6am to midnight from tomorrow (Sept 23).
Other decisions reached by the special task force on pandemic management today were:
- Negeri Sembilan to enter Phase 4 of the national recovery plan on Friday (Sept 24), with Pahang to Phase 3 and Johor to Phase 2.
- Spas, wellness and massage centres may reopen, to fully vaccinated individuals, from Oct 1. Staff must also be fully immunised against Covid-19.
- Tourism centres and premises such as zoos, farms and aquariums as well as snorkelling and scuba diving activities will be allowed to resume in all states from Oct 1, only to fully vaccinated staff and customers.
- Businesses may operate at full capacity once all employees are vaccinated.
“The government hopes that the people will make use of these relaxations in a disciplined and responsible manner. Comply with all rules, wear a mask, practice physical distancing and always take care of your hygiene and safety,” said Ismail.
He also said that foreigners who arrive in Malaysia through international entryways need to pay for their RT-PCR test upon arrival, but the test will be free for Malaysians.
So far, just over 80% of Malaysia’s adult population have been fully vaccinated, but only 57.5% of the total population. - FMT
