Friday Lite : Maulanas and Diesel

The hairball in the picture is a guy called Maulana Fazlur Rahman of Pakistan. Also known as Maulana Diesel.

He plays a significant role in the present Vote of No Confidence against Pakistani PM Imran Khan (scheduled to take place on 28 March 2022 - ten days away).  How did he get the "Diesel" moniker?

"Its alleged that when he was a minister in Benazir Bhutto’s government between 1993 to 1996 as minister of petrolium he took advantage of his position and smuggled diesel into Afghanistan. He is supposed to have made a lot of money by doing this. He sold the diesel at high prices and pocketed the money and brought a diesel crisis in Pakistan."

So the bhai was a diesel smuggler.

In India and Pakistan the word 'maulana' is used to refer to a holy man. Our local equivalent would be 'tok guru'. In reality anyone who looks like a hairball and can do any sort of Hobson Jobson (click here)  will be addressed as a maulana.

The word maulana means a protector, guardian. It is rooted in the word wali whose other forms are auliya, maula. So a maulana refers to a 'protector'. It is a big word.

The word maulana does appear in the Quran. Here is Surah 9:51

The words in yellow highlight say "huwa maulana"

which means 'He is our Protector'. This refers exclusively to Allah swt.

As you can read the translation of the verse (9:51) it refers exclusively to Allah who is our maulana or "Protector".

However in India and Pakistan every other hairball walks around addressing himself or being addressed as 'Protector' (maulana).   Thus assuming upon themselves a role granted quite exclusively to Allah in the Quran. This is shirk or associating partners with Allah.

And some of them even smuggled diesel.

The views expressed are those of the writers and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
