Police want the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry and others affected to come forward with more information on allegations that there are police officers who have rejected reports lodged by domestic abuse victims.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Abd Jalil Hassan said police will not compromise if it is found to be true.
"Police ask the ministry and any quarters affected by this issue to come forward and give more detailed information so an internal investigation can be carried out and action can be taken against the officers involved if it did happen," he added.
On Monday, Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Rina Harun said that there were still some police officers who refused to accept reports lodged by victims of domestic violence by saying that it is a family matter.
She advised victims to instead go to the hospital first to get a medical report so that police will not be able to refuse their report.
Commenting on this, Abd Jalil said they viewed this matter seriously.
He said since the Domestic Violence Act was enforced in 1996, police have issued orders that include punishing officers who reject reports of domestic violence. - Mkini
