PAC looking into MySejahtera issue, may open investigation - report

Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is looking into the ongoing issue that surrounds MySejahtera app licence, which was recently sold off by its developer to another company for some RM300 million.

According to a news report, PAC chairperson Wong Kah Woh (above) said the committee is mulling conducting its own investigation into the matter.

"The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is considering opening up the subject for further deliberation," he said as quoted by English daily The Star.

Wong said the probe would focus on the government's negotiation with MySJ Sdn Bhd on procurement of MySejahtera app licence and management of its services.

Other matters they want to deliberate include costs that would be incurred by the government, and whether Putrajaya should pay for an application that was initially developed as corporate social responsibility (CSR) work.

It was previously revealed via court documents that Entomo, the MySejahtera app developer, had agreed to transfer the intellectual property and the software license of the app to MySJ Sdn Bhd in an RM338.6 million deal that will last until the end of 2025.

This had led to concerns about the sale of the MySejahtera app to the private sector which critics say could lead to a national security threat and the violation of people’s private information.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has since clarified that the government’s decision to appoint a firm to manage the MySejahtera application was not a case of selling it off and that the data is safe with the ministry.

The minister also reportedly said that the government will not pay anything close to RM300m for MySejahtera, and that the government has not paid any of the private companies anything yet.

Khairy said he will explain in detail the questions raised by several parties in the Dewan Negara tomorrow. - Mkini
