PETALING JAYA: Fuziah Salleh, head of PKR’s women’s wing, is throwing her hat into the ring to be elected one of the vice-presidents when the party holds its elections in May.
Her candidacy was announced in a posting by Wanita PKR secretary Nor Azrina Surip, who said the wing hoped that at least seven women would be appointed to the party’s top leadership.
She said women formed more than 40% of the party membership, comprising 1.2 million members, and Wanita PKR felt it was time that the number of women members was translated into a proper representation in the central leadership council.
“We are proud that two important positions, director of the central general election committee and director of the party election committee, are filled by two women leaders whose capabilities and abilities are beyond doubt,” she said.
The two women are Fuziah, who heads PKR’s general election efforts, and Zaliha Mustafa, who heads the committee for party elections.
It was reported recently that Fahmi Fadzil would also contest one of the vice-president’s posts.
Fahmi, who is Lembah Pantai MP, said several members had proposed that he contest the post. “It is not an easy decision to make, but I am considering it,” he told FMT. - FMT
