KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will bring the motion on limiting the tenure of the Chief Minister to two terms to the state assembly, should all elected representatives agree to it.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said in principle, the state cabinet had agreed to the limitation of terms.

"Actually, this is a good proposal, even at the Federal level there are proposals to limit the term of the Prime Minister.

"Even in developed nations such as the United States and other western countries, they have also limited the tenure for their presidents and prime ministers.

"If all elected representatives agree to the proposal, we will raise the matter in the coming assembly sitting to amend the state Constitution," he said at the state assembly sitting.

Hajiji's speech was read by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's department Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

Hajiji was answering a question by Datuk Ewon Benedick (Upko-Kadamaian) on whether the state government has any plans to amend the Sabah Constitution to limit the Chief Minister's appointment to two terms. - NST
