PULAU INDAH: Customs officers have seized 50 luxury vehicles, including nine motorcycles, with a total value of RM11.4 million, including unpaid duties.
The vehicles did not have approved permits for import, customs assistant director Sabri Saad said. Total unpaid duties on the 50 vehicles amounted to RM7.1 million.
No arrests had been made so far.
“Nine of the 50 vehicles are high-powered motorcycles while the others are luxury cars from various countries such as the US, UK, and Japan.”
Approved permits, issued by the international trade and industry ministry, are required to import these vehicles, he said at a press conference at Wisma Kastam here today.
The seizures were made in an operation held from Aug 15 until tomorrow on imported vehicles of individuals and companies around Port Klang.
Sabri also urged the public to assist the department by providing information about smuggling by calling the toll-free line at 1-800-88-8855 or contacting its nearest office. - FMT
