Police reports lodged over Zahid's 'seditious' speech at Umno gathering

Bersatu Youth urged the police to probe Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for allegedly making seditious remarks in his speech during a special briefing to his party delegates on Saturday.

As such, Bersatu Youth information chief Mohd Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir lodged a police report against Zahid at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters earlier today.

"I find the Umno president's speech filled with mockery, insults and slander towards the country's institutions.

"It involves (attacks on the) Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the judiciary, Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) and the MACC," said Ashraf in a statement.

"The Umno president's actions are dangerous as it is tantamount to inciting the people to have distrust in the institutions, and at the same time, pose a threat to national security," said Ashraf who cited excerpts from Zahid's speech delivered in front of thousands of Umno delegates.

Among others, Ashraf accused Zahid of slandering the judiciary with claims of alleged interference by “hidden hands”, alluding to the Federal Court's decision to send former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to jail to serve his 12-year sentence in the RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd corruption case.

In his speech over the weekend, Zahid had touched on the Federal Court's denial of Najib's application to submit new evidence in his final appeal, arguing it had prompted questions over "unjust prosecution".

Further, Ashraf claimed that Zahid had slandered the judiciary with his remarks that preparations were being made to free DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of their respective corruption charges, despite trials still ongoing.

"Such actions if not stopped or taken stern action will expose the country to potential chaos.

"It is out of such concern that I lodge a report today so the police can probe Zahid’s speech under the Sedition Act," he said.

Police report by Amanah leaders

Apart from Bersatu, Amanah's mobilisation bureau chief Mohd Sany Hamzan earlier today lodged a similar report against Zahid at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

Apart from Zahid, Sany said their report also named several other individuals who had also delivered speeches during the special gathering held at Umno's headquarters in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. - Mkini
