PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya Umno has backed a call by Cuepacs to increase the salaries of civil servants.
“A salary increment will help civil servants cope with the unavoidable rise in the cost of living as well as curb corrupt practices among them.
“Putrajaya Umno requests that the government review the salary and allowances of civil servants.
“We have also agreed to join in Cuepacs’ picket should it take place,” it said in a statement.
Putrajaya Umno said this decision was taken after a meeting chaired by its chief, Tengku Adnan Mansor.
The division said it decided to back Cuepacs’ call after taking into account that the wages of civil servants had not been improved by Putrajaya for a long time.
“The last time a RM1,200 minimum wage was fixed was back in 2013. And the last time that a salary increment was given to federal civil servants under the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) was in 2007,” it added.
On July 27, Cuepacs president Adnan Mat urged the government to increase the salaries of civil servants before Parliament is dissolved or face street protests.
He also said proposals to raise the salaries of those in Grade 19 to Grade 29 had been made to the public services department (JPA) countless times, but no action had been taken. - FMT
