Otai Reformis leader Sangkar Rasam is new Sabah PKR chief

PKR has appointed Sangkar Rasam as chairperson for the party’s state leadership council (MPN) for Sabah.

Party president Anwar Ibrahim said this decision was made after meeting (above) with all Sabah PKR branch chiefs today.

He added that the meeting was to finalise the appointments of all MPN chiefs.

“All branch heads in Sabah unanimously agreed with the appointment of Sangkar as the Sabah MPN chairperson for the term 2022 to 2025,” Anwar said on Facebook today.

Sangkar is currently the Keningau PKR branch chief, as well as the Sabah Otai Reformis chairperson.

Otai Reformis, also known as Otai Reformis 1998, is a PKR veterans group.

Anwar said Sangkar will be working in a team with PKR vice president Awang Husaini Sahari, who is the Putatan MP, and Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairperson Christina Liew who is also the Api-Api state assemblyperson.

“Hopefully this strong partnership can ensure Sabah PKR is more united in facing the upcoming 15th general election (GE15),” he said.

The appointments of the MPN chiefs come after the PKR election was finalised during the party’s congress in mid-July.

Earlier in January, there was some dissatisfaction among a number of branch chiefs in Sabah over the leadership of Sangkar’s predecessor Liew.

The 16 branch chiefs boycotted a meeting in preparation for GE15 in protest of Liew’s leadership, despite Anwar’s earlier advice for Liew to be retained as state chief until the party election.

In a separate Facebook posting, Anwar also announced that the new Sarawak PKR chief for the 2022 to 2025 term is Roland Engan, following his meeting with Sarawak PKR branch chiefs this afternoon.

Anwar said Roland, who is also the Baram PKR branch chief, was unanimously proposed by other branch chiefs to lead Sarawak PKR this term.

“Roland will mobilise the MPN together with central leadership council member and Hulu Rajang branch chief Abun Sui Anyit to strengthen PKR in Sarawak,” he said. - Mkini
