Convoys from multiple locations in the Klang Valley will head to the Grab headquarters in Petaling Jaya tomorrow to voice their dissatisfaction over the rate cut for delivery riders.
According to an invitation shared on social media, participants will gather at 3pm. The riders were told to come equipped with their Grab bags and jackets.
They were also advised to refrain from provocations and to adhere to the instructions from the authorities.
In a statement earlier, an association known as Persatuan Perpaduan Rakan Penghantar Malaysia (PPRPM) urged the government to expedite the establishment of a regulatory body that aims to protect the welfare of gig economy operators, especially p-hailing operators.
Expressing disappointment with the rate cut, it said the government should look into implementing short-term measures to address this persistent problem.
“We urge the government to take action and intervene in the p-hailing issue. Only the government can formulate and issue a policy or guidelines for the entire gig economy ecosystem,” it said.
The association also urged GrabFood Malaysia to revert to the original rates.
PPRPM said the slashing of rates without consultation was “utterly disrespectful” to the discussion held with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the matter.
“The issue was raised with the prime minister at the ‘Temu Anwar di Petaling Jaya’ (Meet Anwar in Petaling Jaya) session. There was also a discussion with the transport minister, communications minister and human resources minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
“At that time, all the supervising companies, including GrabFood, agreed to review the pay rates for their drivers.
“However, it is disappointing that this problem persists and the wage rates are very low. This is compounded by the unclear method of calculating wage rates,” it added. - Mkini
