2 teens in Perak village nearly kidnapped

Two 14-year-old girls were almost kidnapped in Kampung Padang, Gerik, Perak, on Monday and yesterday.

Perak police chief Zulkafli Sariaat said the Gerik police headquarters received two reports on the case that happened near the village cemetery.

He said in the first incident at 6.45am on Monday, the girl was reportedly cycling to school before a gray van stopped in front of her.

Zulkafli said at the same time, another white van with a registration number from a neighbouring country squeezed in on the right side and followed the teenager until she reached the village cemetery.

“A woman who witnessed the incident called out to the girl and the two vans then drove off,” he said in a statement.

Zulkafli said in the second incident at 3.20pm yesterday, another girl was walking home from school in the same village.

A white van with a registration number from a neighbouring country drove up next to her and two unknown men wearing facemasks pulled her school bag and dragged her until she fell near the village cemetery.

“However, the complainant was saved by her brother who arrived and kicked one of the suspects, after which the two suspects fled in the van.

“Investigations into the two incidents are ongoing, and police are carrying out patrols in schools, villages and areas with potential for crime,” Zulkafli said.

Zulkafli advised parents and guardians to pay more attention to their children’s safety and to send them to school to avoid unwanted incidents.

“Parents and guardians also need to advise children not to follow or approach strangers. Efforts to locate witnesses and the suspects are underway,” he said. - FMT
