Nga lodges report against PAS leader over parade claim

Teluk Intan MP and federal minister Nga Kor Ming accused Perak PAS chief of stating ‘a blatant lie’ in linking him to a cultural parade in Teluk Intan.

PETALING JAYA
A police report has been lodged against a PAS leader over a claim that Teluk Intan MP and federal minister Nga Kor Ming had taken part in a parade displaying foreign flags, including that of China.

Nga said an aide lodged the police report in Teluk Intan on his behalf, and added that he was also considering taking legal action against Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria. “I have instructed my lawyers to examine this case, and if there are grounds, we will proceed,” he told reporters in Ipoh.

Razman, who is opposition leader in the Perak state assembly, had alleged that Nga had officiated at the event.

Nga again denied the allegation, labelling it a “blatant lie”, saying he was attending a meeting in Kuala Lumpur at the time. “It is impossible for me to be in two places at the same time.”

Razman’s remarks were based on a viral video showing foreign flags, including that of China, being waved near Teluk Intan’s Leaning Tower.

He also suggested there was government endorsement of the event, but Nga later clarified that it was organised by the Guan Gong Cultural Association, a local temple.

The parade was part of the broader International Guan Gong Cultural Festival, with Asean countries represented, and are being held in other states as well, Nga said.

The temple’s chairman, Soon Boon Hua, had earlier apologised, saying the Chinese flags were displayed by foreign delegates on their own and were not planned by the organisers.

Nga said it is important for organisers and participants to be sensitive to the country’s laws. “I hope organisers will be more sensitive, and I want foreign guests to respect our laws.”

Nga also slammed PAS, claiming they have a habit of issuing defamatory statements, followed by a retraction. “Defame, apologise, retract – it’s a rerun,” he said.

Nga also said that Razman just lost a defamation suit to DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng and was ordered by the court to pay Lim RM250,000 in damages.
