DAP is giving its Sabah chapter the authority to review its position in chief minister Hajiji Noor’s administration following an alleged mining scandal which has implicated several assemblymen in the state.
In a brief statement, party secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said it would be up to Sabah DAP to decide on the next course of action.
The party currently has two representatives in the Sabah administration, namely Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zie and Likas assemblyman Tan Lee Fatt.
Phoong is the industrial development and entrepreneurship minister, while Tan is the assistant finance minister.
Loke said Phoong, who is also the Sabah DAP chairman, had provided the party’s central executive committee (CEC) with a detailed brief on the alleged scandal.
“The CEC is steadfast that it will not compromise with any corrupt practices and has given Sabah DAP the mandate to review its position in the state government.”
Last Saturday, FMT reported that a series of videos linking several Sabah assemblymen to an alleged mining scandal was viewed as part of an Umno-led plot against the GRS government.
The videos, leaked by a purported whistleblower, has led to Sabah Umno demanding the resignation of chief minister Hajiji Noor.
Sabah Umno has since denied masterminding the expose.
Yesterday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it was investigating the purported whistleblower who allegedly has information related to corrupt practices involving several Sabah assemblymen regarding prospecting licence approvals.
MACC chief Azam Baki stated that the purported whistleblower, despite providing a statement to the anti-graft agency, has declined to submit the evidence in his possession. - FMT
