Family faces challenges with burial of overweight brother

 

REMOVAL of a dead body usually isn’t difficult although the same cannot be said about removing the memory from the minds of their loved ones.

However, there are special circumstances as seen with a woman who struggled finding ways to manage the funeral of her 44 year old brother who weighed 420 kg.

“I’m at a loss as to how to manage my brother’s body, whether to send him to the hospital for an autopsy or to prepare him for bathing and burial. I don’t know how to handle his body as we are just the two of us, and I am in a wheelchair. My late brother used to be able to manage himself, but his condition had deteriorated over the past five days,” said Hanoraziah Hassan, 60, when met at Kampung Pasir Hor recently.

Hanoraziah added that earlier, her brother got stuck in the toilet. The fire brigade had to help him out with the assistance of eight officers and some family friends.

After the fire brigade left, Sheikh Mohd Ali showed signs of exhaustion and weakness before passing away shortly after.

According to Hanoraziah , the authorities required a health certification letter from a clinic or hospital in order to arrange her brother Sheikh Mohd Ali Omar’s burial.

In a report by Berita Harian, she explained that the issue arose because her brother had not been to the clinic for a long time due to mobility issues, meaning he had no health certification. 

She hoped someone can assist with the burial arrangements, especially with the difficulty of lifting her brother due to his weight. 

“I hope that by sharing this news, it will ease the process of my brother’s burial,” she said. —Focus Malaysia
