Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin has slammed Deputy Chief Minister I Jeffrey Kitingan for labelling peninsula-based parties as “penjajah” (colonisers).
In a statement, Bung reminded the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) deputy chairperson that he also used to be part of BN, a coalition originating from the peninsula.
“As a person who respects the principles of democracy, I viewed Kitingan’s speech as cheap rhetoric, seditious, and diminishing his credibility.
“Kitingan is trying to become a hero in GRS, which is now a sinking ship, but he has not been successful.
“It is BN’s right to contest (in Sabah) and represent the rakyat’s aspirations. History does not forget that Kitingan also used to be a part of BN not too long ago,” Bung (above) said.
His statement came in response to a speech Kitingan made during the launch of GRS Youth recently.
Kitingan, who is also the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president, reportedly labelled political parties that came from Peninsular Malaysia as Sabah invaders, and their leaders as “pengkhianat” (traitors).
For the record, the next Sabah state election must be held by December next year.
Adding further, Bung chided Kitingan and GRS over the recent corruption scandal that hit the Sabah state administration.
“Does Kitingan realise that it was GRS leaders in power who were caught on camera, not Umno?
“This is the actual betrayal that will destroy Sabah’s future,” he said.
Kitingan’s remarks had also irked Sabah PKR, an ally of GRS.
According to a report by SabahNewsToday, Sabah PKR secretary Sazalye Donol challenged Kitingan to quit the federal government if he could no longer work together with peninsula parties. - Mkini
