JOHOR BARU: The police have started investigations into a derogatory message insulting Islam printed on three separate receipts of a fast food restaurant.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk M Kumar said three investigation papers have been opened to investigate the incidents, which involved three districts in Johor.
"We have detected the circulation of the receipts under the name 'Suwash Muktan'.
"The receipts, which contain statements insulting the Malays and Islam, were issued on Dec 19 and 20.
"They were detected in Kluang, Muar and Batu Pahat, and are believed to have been ordered by the same individual," he said in a statement here.
He said the incidents are being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for engaging in acts with seditious tendencies, Section 298 of the Penal Code for uttering words with the intention of hurting another person's religious feelings and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services.
Comm Kumar said the police view the issue seriously and will take stern action against those involved.
"Firm and uncompromising action will be taken under the prevailing laws against any individual intentionally disturbing public peace and safety," he added. - Star
