PETALING JAYA: Local authorities are investigating the organisers of a dinner event by a mining company in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, which allegedly featured a suggestive dance performance, says a state executive councillor.
The event, held last Saturday at the hall of a Chinese vernacular school, drew public criticism after photos of the performance went viral.
Kelantan local government, housing, health and environment committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah said the Tanah Merah district council confirmed that the organisers had not obtained the necessary permit for the event.
He said the attendees comprised mostly Chinese miners working in Sokor, as well as external guests and company employees, some of whom were local Muslims.
“Both the event organisers and the school’s management will be called to provide their statements,” he was quoted as saying in a Harian Metro report.
“We regret the organisers’ decision to include such entertainment and use a school hall for this type of event.”
Hilmi added that the organisers and school management had violated Section 6 of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment 1998, which carries a penalty of up to RM20,000, five years in prison, or both. - FMT
