PETALING JAYA
Police have arrested the owner of a TikTok account who is believed to have made insulting statements targeting the royal institution and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that a report was filed yesterday by a man in Cyberjaya about a posting by a user going by the handle @ryanwong_5845, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“Following the report, the police arrested a 22-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the TikTok account, at his residence in Johor yesterday,” he was quoted as saying.

Razarudin added that the suspect’s mobile phone was seized, and investigations are ongoing under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

In the posting, the man allegedly questioned why the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim; the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail; and Anwar had dined at a restaurant that allegedly did not have a halal certificate.

Earlier this month, the king, the regent and Anwar were seen having lunch together at a restaurant, which served asam pedas, in Johor Bahru shortly after Sultan Ibrahim granted an audience to the prime minister. - FMT
