A research assistant has lodged a report against a police officer who allegedly showed lewd gestures towards her during a rally recently.
In her police report, the woman who only wants to be known as Intan Zaahirah, said the incident occurred on Dec 13 when she was taking photographs of the “Turun Demi Palestin” rally in Kuala Lumpur.
“An officer looked at me and made lewd gestures, depicting oral sex.
“This act was done deliberately and repeatedly,” the 25-year-old said in her report lodged at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
‘Demeaning, insulting’
Intan alleged that the officer’s act was showing intent of sexual assault and had demeaned her dignity as a woman.
“At the time, I was alone at the staircase of a pedestrian bridge. So, it was clear the gestures were targeted at me.
“It was disgusting and an insult to my modesty, in addition to hurting my feelings. His colleague beside him just laughed… he didn’t even try to stop him (from showing the lewd gestures).
“While I managed to record the whole thing on my camera, I couldn’t record the other officer’s name,” she said, urging the authorities to sack the officers.
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said his team was conducting an internal investigation into the alleged incident, and they have identified the suspected officer, who works in the capital. - Mkini
