RAMADAN should be the best month for Muslims to showcase the true beauty of Islam to non-Muslins who have been made to understand that the fasting month is a period of reflection, restraint and spiritual rejuvenation.
But with due respect to Muslims who diligently uphold their faith, Ramadan of 2025 has just registered a third public ‘face-hitting’ incident in a week with the perpetrators all donning religious garb – or to borrow human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim’s favourite description – sporting the Pak Arab look.
In the latest incident shared by pro-Madani digital creator Jasin Yew, a video purportedly shot in Klang shows an argument between two men wearing skullcaps a.k.a. kopiah and a security guard.
Apparently, the security guard had requested for personal details of the men before allowing entry as the vehicle did not have the relevant residence sticker.
Somehow, the kopiah-wearers took umbrage with one of them landing a slap on the security guard who did not seem to display any sign of aggression or uncivility (it is to be noted that the CCTV footage has no sound).

“Why was there a need to resort to violence when the security guard was merely doing his job,” he wondered.
Spate of incidents
This latest incident follows two earlier ‘face-assault’ cases starting with last Friday (March 14) involving the chairman of a surau in Kajang who punched till fracturing the nose of an underaged driver over a minor traffic misunderstanding at the intersection of a road in Kajang’s Saujana Impian.
As a costly lesson, the perpetrator was fired by Altis Holidays Sdn Bhd where he worked as a freelance mutawwif (a person who guides pilgrims during their umrah or Hajj and is also responsible for their well-being throughout the journey).
Just two days later on Sunday (March 16), an elderly man who was a former civil servant confronted and slapped a non-Muslim Sarawakian Chinese undergraduate for not fasting,
The latest incident captured on X has already generated 503K views at time of publication with more than a few netizens asking why the need to resort to violence.
More than one netizen shared the sentiment that this was a problem among the walaun (slang for ultra-conservative PAS supporters) who seem overly eager to get on their high horses.
Some netizens noted that this outward show of aggression seemed to be directed towards those perceived to be in a weak position such as members of the handicapped community, young students and security guards.
One commenter sarcastically remarked that although these men had exhibited violent tendencies, “their places in heaven was assured simply because they were wearing the right clothing”.
Some reckoned this problem of self-righteousness among the kopiah-wearing brigade was getting worse as they seemed keen to raise their hand over the slightest of issues (or non-issues).
Calling it a disease, one netizen said these so-called pious lot were extremely judgmental and easily angered.
“Give him a raise” was the sentiment of one commenter who praised the security guard for keeping his cool in the face of such belligerence.
The security guard has reportedly lodged a police report at the Klang police station. Many netizens expressed their wish that the aggressor spends his Hari Raya behind bars.
While it is extremely unfair to tar everyone with the same brush, the spate of recent incidents has created a bad perception among the public over these holier-than-thou types who don religious attire.
