KUALA LUMPUR: A family argument turned aggressive when a 37-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by his brother-in-law and two of his friends using a wooden stick and machetes last month.

The case came to light after police received a report from a relative of the victim on Feb 8.

South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said preliminary investigations showed the incident took place in Jalan Persiaran Raja Muda, Klang at about 9.30pm on Feb 7.

"During the incident, the victim was assaulted by his brother-in-law and two of his friends using a wooden stick and machetes.

"The cause of the altercation was due to a family dispute," he said in a statement today.

The victim, who sustained injuries to his hands and both hands, was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang.

Cha said one of the suspects, a 41-year-old man, was arrested at about 11 pm on Feb 12.

He added that the suspect, who has a record of six criminal offences, was charged under Section 34 of the Penal Code at the magistrate's court in Klang on Feb 17.

Cha said police are now tracking down the two other suspects involved in the case.

"In connection with the case, police have also obtained a CCTV recording of the altercation, which has since gone viral on social media.

"Police are actively working to track down and arrest the two remaining suspects who are still at large." - NST
