PETALING JAYA
An agent at a vehicle inspection centre has been arrested for allegedly accepting bribes to secure priority queue numbers for inspections.

The agent is believed to have received about RM40,000 in bribes from vehicle owners, according to a source with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Bernama reported.

According to the source, information from the road transport department’s enforcement division revealed that several individuals had misused the Puspakom booking system by making bulk reservations using random vehicle numbers.

They would then offer the pre-booked slots to customers for a few hundred ringgit per slot before rescheduling them to allow new bookings in the system.

“Regular customers found difficulty in securing inspection appointments as all available slots had been booked by these agents,” the source added.

A five-day remand order against the suspect, a man in his 60s, was issued by the Putrajaya magistrates’ court.

Putrajaya MACC director Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi said other agents involved in similar activities are being tracked down. - FMT
