Armizan denies link to Sabah corruption scandal

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Ali has denied allegations that he was involved in graft and plans to lodge a police report against his accusers.

This followed viral messages on social media that linked the Papar MP to an alleged corruption scandal involving mineral exploration projects in Sabah.

"I was informed about slandering messages implicating my name going viral on social media during this month of Ramadan.

"Thankfully, one of those spreading these lies has been identified as a former people's representative, who sent the message to many people who then informed me about it.

"While waiting for my lawyer's advice, I will start taking action by lodging a police report based on the WhatsApp message that the person sent," Armizan said in a statement on Facebook last night.

‘Datuk Z’ cited in viral posts

The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) deputy secretary-general, however, did not name the former elected representative.

A search on Facebook found several postings citing a “Datuk Z” claiming Armizan was involved in negotiations between an Indonesian firm and Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) over mineral exploration licences in the state.

The postings included photos of an alleged visit by SMM and Armizan to the Indonesian company’s office in Jakarta in May 2023.

They also alleged that the minister received millions in kickbacks from the company - which is owned by a billionaire tycoon - for his involvement in the purported deal. - Mkini
