After MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki publicly named the whistleblower in the Sabah corruption scandal, the floodgates have opened.
China Press has now published a photo of his white Toyota Alphard with its number plate fully visible. His full name was printed in bold letters as well.
The car was spotted outside the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, where the businessperson was summoned for yet another round of questioning this morning.
The China Press article’s headline read “MACC very busy today”, referring to the questioning of the 36-year-old businessperson and former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The latter, who was summoned over the RM177 million seized from his aides, left the premises after four hours, whereas the businessperson, who went in at 10am, was still not done at the time of publication.
‘Albert’ concerned with family’s safety
On Tuesday, former MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya identified the 36-year-old businessperson only as “Albert” to protect his identity.
However, just hours later, Azam claimed that Albert had authorised his lawyers to disclose his name and revealed his full identity at a press conference.
Although the father of two remained unfazed and refrained from speculating on whether this was intentional, he expressed concern for his family’s safety.

“I am just a little concerned for my family. I received death threats in the past. What if something happens, who will be responsible?” he asked.
Earlier today, the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) criticised Azam for naming the whistleblower.
Describing his action as “sheer negligence”, it said this would undermine any protection granted to the whistleblower in the future.
“The risk that this whistleblower has taken in seeking to come forward with his story is clear, yet authorities seem to have completely disregarded his safety and security - with Azam’s disclosure only increasing the threat posed to the whistleblower for his actions,” C4 added. - Mkini
