Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said the suspect is the father of a pupil at the same school.
“The man has given his statement. Police will refer the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further instructions,” he was quoted by Berita Harian as saying.
On Thursday, it was reported that the seven-year-old boy, a resident of a shelter home, was allegedly hit and slapped twice, causing his head to hit a wall at a school in Johor Bahru.
The boy, who suffered bruises and trauma, was taken to the hospital for an examination.
A spokesman for the shelter home told the Malay daily the boy was discharged last night after being monitored at the hospital for two days.
The incident follows another in which a retired civil servant was charged in the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court with slapping a non-Muslim man who was eating in public during Ramadan.
Abdul Razak Ismail pleaded not guilty to the charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. - FMT
