Bernama reported that the bill was passed with a majority voice vote after being debated by several senators.
Law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said, in winding up the debate, said the bill contained 15 clauses, compared with only eight clauses in the Parliamentary Services Act 1963 repealed in 1992.
She said the most important clause pertains to the parliamentary services council, which may establish any committee deemed necessary to assist in its functions.
“This means there will also be a parliamentary services appeals committee as mentioned in clause 9, the parliamentary services disciplinary committee (clause 8) and the parliamentary services promotion committee (Clause 7),” she said.
Earlier, the Dewan Negara also passed the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2025 to strengthen the independence of Parliament and the principle of separation of powers.
