The health ministry’s ePlacement system is expected to reopen between May and June, says health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad.

In a Berita Harian report, Dzulkefly said the ministry is expected to restart the ePlacement system – which allows contract doctors to apply for permanent positions – after it is finalised and tested.

“This new ePlacement system is fairer and is not based on the ‘first-come, first-served’ method, which led to technical disruptions in the past,” he said.

“We will refine and redesign the system so that all areas are taken into account… we don’t want everyone choosing (placements in) the Klang Valley; there is also a need for placements in Sabah and Sarawak.”

On March 17, the ministry said the scheduled placement session for 2,245 candidates on the day had to be postponed due to a serious technical disruption caused by “unusual access” to the ePlacement system.

It said that a placement session on Feb 27 saw the ePlacement website accessed over 19 million times, which overloaded the system and made the database unreachable.

The Feb 27 placement session also saw an excess in approved placements compared to the original quota, with less than 1% of vacancies in Sabah and Sarawak filled.

The ministry also said the placement session scheduled for March 25-27 had been put on hold due to technical difficulties, adding that it was working on producing a “transparent, fair and merit-based” system. - FMT
