Lau said Gerakan would rather prioritise Perikatan Nasional’s overall strategy for the state polls than taking a risk on unwinnable seats.
“There’s no point in contesting if (we find) it impossible to win. We strongly believe that our coalition is important. We cannot stand alone in this state election,” he said at a press conference at the Gerakan headquarters.
Lau said discussions are under way between Sabah Gerakan and Sabah PN to determine the overall strategy before a proposal is put forward at the next PN leadership meeting.
“We are discussing whether contesting will affect the bigger picture and the prospects of our partners. Bersatu has targeted certain seats, while we also have set our eyes on several seats. The state chapters will have to coordinate with each other,” he said.
It was previously reported that Gerakan had identified three seats to contest in the next Sabah state elections, which must be held by December.
Today, Lau said the seats are in Kota Kinabalu, and Gerakan has identified suitable candidates.
“We believe our strength is in Kota Kinabalu,” he said. - FMT
