PETALING JAYA
The flooding in Johor has worsened with the number of evacuees in the state standing at 3,721 as of 5.30pm, according to the social welfare department’s InfoBencana portal.

The worst-hit district is Johor Bahru with 1,459 evacuees followed by Kota Tinggi (915), Kulai (755), Pontian (504) and Kluang (88).

In Sabah, 250 people have been evacuated in three districts, namely Sandakan (132), Beluran (92) and Paitan (26).

Kapit, Sarawak, is also experiencing flooding, with nine people evacuated.

Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi earlier said he had instructed the irrigation and drainage department to expedite flood mitigation projects in the southern state.

He warned that the state government would not compromise with any party taking such projects lightly or delaying their implementation. -FMT
