SABAH Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan announced that Sabah estimates its 40% revenue entitlement from federal collections at RM20bil for 2024, stressing it’s Sabah’s rightful share, not federal or Peninsular funds.
Speaking at the STAR party office launch in Luyang, he highlighted how this could boost Sabah’s development and economy.
Frustrated by the federal government’s failure to provide revenue data despite 13 requests, Sabah compiled its figures and submitted them.
“We counted, and perhaps the 40% is RM20bil. We must claim it. It is our money. It is not federal money or the states in Peninsular. It is Sabah’s money,” he said as reported by The Borneo Post on today.
A final Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) meeting is set for June 30, 2025, to resolve the claim, with an independent assessor to step in if needed. Jeffrey criticised interim payments of RM600mil and unspent federal allocations, pushing for fairer returns to Sabah.
“We have asked the central government to finalise and make a decision. We have asked them for the figures (federal revenues from Sabah) 13 times.
“They did not give, so we don’t want to wait anymore. We have to be proactive. We took the initiative to compile the data, and from the data, we submitted it to the central government. I have mentioned it in billions,” he said. — Focus Malaysia
