Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd confirmed a train on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line experienced a technical disruption at the Abdullah Hukum Station last night, causing small plumes of smoke and a loud noise.
The rail operator said the incident occurred at 10.43pm and was caused by damage to Train No 84’s power collector assembly.
“Following the incident, the transit officer on duty acted swiftly by instructing all passengers to disembark at Abdullah Hukum station.
“Alternative train services were immediately activated to ensure passengers could continue their journeys with minimal disruption,” Rapid Rail said in a statement today.
A viral video of the incident showed passengers screaming as the train emitted a loud noise and smoke.
Rapid Rail said no injuries were reported.
It added that the affected train was sent to the maintenance depot for further investigation.
To prevent similar incidents, the company said it has intensified inspections on all trains operating on the Kelana Jaya Line to ensure service reliability remains at an optimal and safe level.
“Additionally, transit officers have been assigned to conduct more frequent monitoring, especially inside trains during peak hours, as a precautionary measure,” the rail operator said.
Rapid Rail apologised for the inconvenience experienced by passengers and pledges to continue improving its services to ensure safer, more comfortable, and smoother journeys for Rapid KL users. - Mkini
