MACC still possesses Malaysiakini reporter's mobile phone

Malaysiakini journalist B Nantha Kumar's mobile phone remains under MACC’s possession despite the former being released on bail yesterday.

As such, Malaysiakini urged the anti-graft agency to ensure that the integrity of the mobile phone’s contents is not compromised.

"The contents, be it in the form of images or messages, are crucial for our journalist to establish his defence.

"We also reiterate our call for MACC to ensure that the safety of whistleblowers and the journalist's sources is not compromised," said the news portal.

Nantha was accused of receiving RM20,000 from an agent dealing with migrant workers, in exchange for not publishing two articles that would expose the cartel.

The journalist was released yesterday after being held under remand for four days.

Nantha has worked with Malaysiakini since 2018 and has written extensively about immigration syndicates, including those involving the Immigration Department. - Mkini
