Robinson Jimbun Kadum was charged in the Miri sessions court with setting fire to two doors at the St Dominic and the Rosary Church in Taman Tunku on March 19, causing damage estimated at RM1,800.
A police investigation found that Robinson had ignited a plastic bottle filled with flammable liquid, The Borneo Post reported.
In mitigation, Robinson pleaded for leniency, saying that this was his first offence.
Judge Azreena Aziz imposed the sentence after Robinson pleaded guilty to the charge of committing mischief framed under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to seven years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Asymawi Ghazali prosecuted the case. Robinson was unrepresented. - FMT
