MELAKA: Melaka has been selected as the host for the launch of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), which will coincide with World Tourism Day (WTD) celebrations in September 2025.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing confirmed the decision, adding that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has also approved the event's budget.
"We have agreed, and so has the Prime Minister. The launch will take place during World Tourism Day 2025, scheduled for September," Tiong said during an engagement session with Melaka's tourism industry players held at Bukit Cina today.
The event, officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, also saw the attendance of Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, and over 1,000 local tourism industry players.
Tiong urged all stakeholders, especially tourism industry players, to actively promote VM2026 across various platforms, including social media.
"This is crucial as we aim to boost the tourism-driven economy and ensure that all parties, especially the people, benefit from it," he added. - BERNAMA
