No new visa restrictions on Malaysians travelling abroad, says Wisma Putra

Wisma Putra said today that no new visa restrictions have been imposed on Malaysians travelling overseas as claimed in a video posted on social media.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said a “misleading video” had falsely claimed that eight countries had recently imposed new visa requirements for Malaysians.

“The ministry confirms that this claim is entirely untrue,” it said.

“At present, there have been no changes to the visa policies affecting Malaysian travellers in the countries mentioned.

“The public should avoid sharing unverified information and should always refer to official sources for accurate and up-to-date travel information.”

It added that a police report had been lodged and the video had also been referred to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further investigation.

The video alleged that countries such as Australia, Canada, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates have introduced strict travel restrictions targeting Malaysian passport holders.

It claimed that the restrictions involved prolonged entry screenings, special visa requirements and additional financial requirements for Malaysian travellers.

The video further alleged that the restrictions were part of “a larger pattern of international pressure on Malaysia” in which Malaysian travellers were “unwitting pawns”. - FMT
