
The world No 5 pair were on fire from the start and raced ahead to win 21-16, 21-14 in 43 minutes, becoming the second Malaysian pair to enter the quarter-finals.
An injury to Pearly in the second game when they were leading 13-7 nearly saw them give away points.
Despite the occasional limp, Pearly pushed through to ensure they won the game.
This is Pearly-Thinaah’s fourth win over the Indonesian pair, ranked world No 29, in their six encounters so far.
In the quarter-final tomorrow, they will be seeking to avenge their defeat to Japan’s Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida in the bronze play-off at last year’s Olympics.
Earlier, national mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai eased into the quarter-finals after defeating Scotland’s Alexander Dunn-Julie Macpherson 21-9, 21-10. - FMT
