Rayer questions AG's silence after Zamri stirs temple issue

DAP lawmaker RSN Rayer has questioned the absence of charges against independent preacher Zamri Vinoth, despite numerous police reports filed against him.

“Over 894 police reports have been lodged until now against Zamri for his earlier Facebook posting where he mocked the Thaipusam kavadi bearers.

“Why is the attorney-general still silent? Why hasn't Zamri been charged in court yet? Is Zamri above the law?” he asked in a statement.

Rayer (above) was among the first to lodge a police report against the preacher after he compared kavadi bearers to individuals who were possessed and intoxicated.

On March 12, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the Attorney-General's Chambers is reviewing the investigation papers.

Wading in

Rayer's latest comments follow Zamri's remarks related to the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple controversy in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

“While everyone involved is trying their level best to resolve this temple matter amicably for the sake of unity in our multiracial and multireligious country, Zamri attempts to wade in and exploit this issue by posting provocative comments yet again on his Facebook page.

“Zamri's latest posting on his Facebook alleges that most temples are built illegally on land not belonging to the temple and also mocks the Tamil language by saying ‘illek porringe’.

“Why is Zamri commenting on matters that do not concern him? What is his reason for posting such provocative comments now?” he asked.

Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple

Yesterday, Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister R Ramanan stated that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had discussed the issue of the temple’s relocation with him.

He added that the prime minister is seeking a fair and harmonious solution.

Earlier, Lawyers for Liberty co-founder N Surendran claimed that the temple, which is set to be demolished to make way for a mosque, is now in a difficult position due to past actions by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), despite DBKL now appearing to distance itself from the matter. - Mkini
