Revoke citizenship of man who insulted Islam, govt urged

Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin said people who are abroad and make such remarks ‘are irresponsible; maybe they feel superior’.

PETALING JAYA
Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin has called on the government to revoke the citizenship of a man who allegedly made insulting remarks about Islam as well as lewd comments in a now viral video.

The man is believed to be residing overseas.

Hamzah said revocation of his citizenship would help deter others abroad from uttering similar remarks in the belief that the long arm of the law could not reach them.

“These people who are abroad and make such remarks are irresponsible. Maybe they feel superior.

“The home ministry needs to revoke this individual’s citizenship. This way, other Malaysians living abroad won’t have the audacity to say such things,” Hamzah, a former home minister, told reporters at an event in Larut.

Last night, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the suspect which they are tracking down is probably overseas.

The authorities are investigating the case as a criminal offence of inciting racial and religious disharmony.

Razarudin said the video may be in response to an earlier video featuring three DJs who courted controversy for mocking the Thaipusam kavadi ritual. - FMT
