IPOH: The Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has received two complaints against traders at a Ramadan bazaar in Perak for displaying misleading food prices under Op Pantau 2025, which began on March 2.
Perak KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said both cases occurred at a popular Ramadan bazaar in Ipoh, where buyers were charged different prices from those displayed.
"So far, the complaints we have received involve misleading food prices. For example, a rice dish may be displayed at RM12, but when scanned for payment, the price becomes RM15.
"We have received two such complaints in Perak, both at the same Ramadan bazaar in Ipoh," he told reporters during the Walkabout Bazar Ramadan Rahmah (BRR) and Mysavefood Ramadan programme at Taman Cempaka this evening.
Kamalludin said that since it began, Op Pantau has resulted in 11 enforcement actions, including the seizure of counterfeit shoes worth RM84,000 under the Trademarks Act 2019.
He said the remaining 10 cases involved missing price tags and unverified or expired weighing equipment.
A total of 1,051 premises were inspected.
"The total fines collected from all 11 cases amount to RM3,800, with an estimated seizure value of RM84,000."
Op Pantau 2025 focuses on inspections at key locations, including Ramadan bazaars, Aidilfitri bazaars, public markets, wet markets, supermarkets, and grocery shops during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
On March 4, KPDN Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh said that 116 complaints had been received during Op Pantau, with Perak recording the highest number of cases at 10.
In related developments, Kamalludin said that 10 BRR locations have been set up in Perak for this Ramadan, covering Kinta (2), Hilir Perak (2), Kuala Kangsar (1), Hulu Perak (1), Larut, Matang & Selama (1), Batang Padang (1), Manjung (1), and Kerian (1).
He added that an estimated 52,000 visitors would have the opportunity to receive incentives through ReDi, amounting to RM20 per person via the TnG e-wallet for spending at BRR.
The incentive is limited to the first 650 visitors at BRR on selected dates.
"In 2024, 8,350 visitors at Bazar Ramadan Rahmah benefited from the RM20 e-wallet incentive by Perak KPDN.
"Traders offering the Menu Rahmah at BRR will also receive a one-time incentive of RM100 this year," he said. - NST
