A businessperson who implicated Sabah legislative speaker Kadzim Yahya in a corruption scandal has released alleged WhatsApp messages between them.
In the leaked conversation from May 30, 2024, Kadzim purportedly told the businessperson he had lost his wallet and asked for a cash advance.
“You can also just offset it from what is due to me,” the apologetic speaker allegedly wrote, saying he had to call his banks to block his cards and accounts “for fear of misuse by unscrupulous people”.
The businessperson agreed, promising to deliver RM50,000 the next day.
In one of the alleged messages, the speaker also requested that the “missing wallet” not be mentioned in front of his wife, fearing she would “make noise”.
Responding to this, Kadzim acknowledged the message but said it was a request to borrow money from the businessperson.
“It was not like an advance per se like part payment. It was requesting to lend (borrow) some cash while trying to settle the matter. But when we met sometime later in Kota Kinabalu, I offered to refund, and he said, ‘it’s okay later lah’. That’s about it,” he told Malaysiakini.
Below are the leaked WhatsApp messages:
