
KOTA KINABALU: A 55-year-old woman was seriously injured when the ceiling of a multi-storey shoplot collapsed on her tonight.
The victim, identified as Wang Way, was in a restaurant on the ground floor of Kompleks Segama when the floor above her collapsed.
The Fire and Rescue Department operations control centre received a distress call regarding the incident about 8pm, and a team from the Sembulan fire station, led by Masri Gari, was immediately despatched to the scene, arriving five minutes later.
However, the victim had already been rescued by passers-by and she was sent to then Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Upon arrival, rescuers found that a section of the building had collapsed.
To ensure safety, firefighters instructed members of the public to evacuate the premises.
The operation ended about 830pm.
Also involved in the operation were six policemen and three healthcare personnel.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation by the authorities. - NST
